Once more, the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) is leading the way with the inaugural MCKK 7s Premier Rugby Tournament, to be held on 25-27 February 2011, during which schools from all over the country and neighboring countries will come together to enjoy not just the hospitality of the school but the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar.
MCKK has always been passionate about rugby. It has been a major game for the school since it was first introduced by then Headmaster Mr. N.J. Ryan back in 1956. Naming the team the MCKK All-Blacks, taking after the legendary New Zealand national team, their fortunes have both waxed and waned over the years, yet they remain one of the most formidable rugby teams in the country.
During the course of this tournament, the school will play host to their counter-parts from all over the country. This is an opportunity not just to showcase the best of the traditions and spirit of the school, but also to learn from the experiences of others.
The objectives of this tournament are mainly to raise the standards of rugby amongst schools in Malaysia apart from fostering closer relations amongst participating teams and students.
To this end, MCKK and Malay College Old Boys Association (MCOBA) have also announced their partnership with DiGi Telecommunications (DiGi) by way of title sponsorship in support of achieving these objectives.
“MCKK and MCOBA are delighted to announce that DiGi will be leading the list of sponsors for the MCKK Premier 7s. Their support will add prestige to this tournament and help establish the Premier 7s and rugby as a major event in the Malaysian Schools’ sporting calendars,” said MCKK Principal, Encik Anand Baharuddin.
“The title-sponsorship by DiGi is an invaluable contribution towards the resource needed to host and execute the event successfully.”
“DiGi is pleased to be a part of the Premier 7s and to support the developing interest in rugby among local Malaysian youths. We are constantly on the lookout to collaborate with schools to create unique experiences that resonate with our students and what they are passionate in. The MCKK Premier 7s is one such example we believe will benefit the students and the local community alike, a brilliant opportunity to participate and enjoy a premier level rugby event at their doorsteps,” said Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Head of Segment Marketing at DiGi.
